Brighton hoping to loan Gomez from Liverpool
Brighton are keen to bring in Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on-loan as they prepare for life in the Premier League for the first time.
The 20-year-old Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton in 2015, making his debut in August of that year starting at left-back when still only 18.
His progress was slowed by an ACL tear in October 2015, keeping him out for more than a year, but he came back into the first team at the start of 2017.
He did not feature for the Reds in the league last season however, and Brighton are keen to give him more game time as Chris Hughton looks to bolster his defensive options before the season gets underway.
Hughton has already brought in Pascal Gross and Mathew Ryan this summer, but is hoping to add more reinforcements as Brighton aim to avoid a relegation battle, with Gomez very much on their radar.
Hughton said: “He’s a player who we are definitely interested in.
“But he’s a Liverpool player and it will be Liverpool’s decision on whether they keep him there or whether they allow him to go out on-loan.
“If he’s allowed to go out on-loan, he would be a player we’d be interested in but he’s Liverpool’s player and they will make that decision.”
