Anichebe: Moyes will bring best out of me
They may both be new faces at the Stadium of Light but Victor Anichebe insists there is no better manager to bring out his potential than David Moyes.
Anichebe declined the interests of other clubs, leaving West Brom to rekindle his relationship with Moyes at Sunderland – with the two previously together for seven years at Goodison Park after the Nigerian striker came through the academy.
And while things have not gone perfectly for Sunderland – who sit 16th in the Premier League table with one point from three games – Anichebe feels that the talent of Moyes will eventually shine through.

“Everyone knows I’ve got a good relationship with the manager, he brought me through as a kid and that was a big factor in my coming to Sunderland,” he said.
“I did have a few offers in Europe and some in England, I was looking at the European option but the gaffer was a huge pull for me.
“He knows me inside out, and I feel like he can get the best out of me. Sunderland is a really good club, it’s always difficult to play against them, and so hopefully being here we can get some good performances in and do really well.
“His always has a good game-plan, he gets the best out of all his players and he knows how to get results.
“He’s still trying to stamp his authority across, so it’s always going to be a challenge at the start, but if you looked at our time at Everton we were always slow starters and picked up when we really got to know what we wanted to do.”
