Chelsea loanee Baker hoping to catch Conte’s eye in Holland
He may be setting the Dutch Eredivisie alight, but Chelsea loanee Lewis Baker insists he will not be satisfied until he has battled his way into Antonio Conte’s good books at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old midfielder has scored four goals in seven games for Vitesse Arnhem, where clubmates Matt Miazga and Nathan are also on loan this term.
Baker is yet to appear for the Blues in the Premier League, but the England under-21 starlet insists he does not see his future anywhere else and is hoping to use his opportunity in Holland as a springboard into the reckoning at Chelsea.
“I want to score as many as I can, assist as many as I can. I work a lot on my finishing in training and at the moment it’s paying off,” he said.
“It’s just the start of the season but I need to keep doing my best every day and keep improving so I can get back to Chelsea, where I’d like to be.
“I have improved a lot on the tactical aspect of the game since I have come to Vitesse, It’s a very good league. There’s a lot of young talent out here.
“There are also a lot of players who have played out here and moved on to the Premier League. If I keep going the way I’m going that’s one of my dreams I want to make come true.”
