Burnley holding right survival assets for Gudmundsson

Burnley have become familiar with spending a limited amount of time in the Premier League, but winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson is confident the Clarets can put an end to their yo-yo history in the top flight.

The Clarets have spent two previous seasons in the Premier League, the most recent of which saw them relegated to the Championship at the first time of asking in 2015.

A haul of just 28 goals in the campaign proved a hindrance at Turf Moor, with their tally of just three from five games so far – including two against Liverpool – suggesting a similar problem his time around.

But the 25-year-old believes the attributes Sean Dyche’s side have already shown will leave them in good stead for the rest of the campaign.

“You can look at it as pressure but also enjoy being in the Premier League and try and not play under and feel pressure,” he said.

“Most people don’t expect much from Burnley but we know what we’re about, our aim is to stay in the league and I’m confident we can do that.

“The season is young, we’ve only played five games, so there are a lot of games left but we’ve shown we belong in this league and our main goal is staying up. There’s a lot of quality in this team and I have no worries.”
