Coutinho: Liverpool have hit the jackpot with Mane

Jurgen Klopp has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal but Philippe Coutinho admits new signing Sadio Mane has taken Liverpool to a new level this season.

Eyebrows were raised at the size of the £34million deal that whisked Mane away from Southampton over the summer, but the Senegal international has certainly begun to justify that fee.

The forward combines raw pace with a penchant for opening up defences – as Leicester City found out at their expense in last weekend’s 4-1 defeat.

By scoring Liverpool’s second, Mane took his tally to eight goals in his last eight Premier League appearances.

His arrival may mean more rotation for the likes of Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge this season but Coutinho for one is delighted with Liverpool’s latest star.

“He’s a fantastic player,” said Coutinho. “He’s very quick, he’s got very good feet, so that helps us to create a lot of chances to score – not just him but as we saw in the game, Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino, Lallana up there too.

“The manager has a lot of options to choose from.

“Everyone’s been working hard in training, so for sure, it’s good for the manager to have options to choose from, and it’s good for Liverpool.”
