Fernandinho: Jesus will make huge Premier League impact

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is backing his compatriot Gabriel Jesus to make a huge impact in the Premier League when he finally arrives from Palmeiras.

The 19-year-old striker will move to Manchester after Christmas when the Brazilian season finishes, but will already have got City fans’ hearts racing with his performances for his country at the Olympic Games and more recently against Ecuador.

Jesus scored twice against Los Amarillos on Friday – his first a flick-on at the near post before smashing a drive home from 20 yards.

Fernandinho is thrilled with the prospect of linking up with him at City, and believes the starlet will thrive under manager Pep Guardiola.

“I’ve watched some games while he was playing with Palmeiras and I really like him,” he said.

“He did well during the Olympics and scored twice on his full debut against Ecuador so he’s doing really well and is a great talent.

“He has helped take Palmeiras to the top of the league and City have done a great job by bringing him to the Club.

“He is a true Brazilian player and plays with style, likes to dribble a lot and plays with the kind of flair associated with Brazil footballers.

“People back home have been saying a lot of good things about him and when Neymar left for Barcelona, he became the player in the spotlight.

“Of course, he is very young and needs to improve and grow but in all honesty I can’t wait for him to arrive and start playing for us because I think he will do really well for us.”
