Fuchs set for Leicester’s Champions League ‘present’

Leicester City are preparing for their first venture into the Champions League, and Premier League-winning hero Christian Fuchs is looking forward to their self-wrapped gift.

There will be some fans still in disbelief that the Foxes are taking to club football’s grandest stage, but Wednesday night sees Claudio Ranieri’s side making the trip to Club Brugge on an historic evening for the club.

It’s an experience the Austrian Fuchs is relishing, something he believes is entirely down to their own belief, work-rate and performance after delivering one of the biggest shocks the Premier League has seen in claiming the title.

And a trip to Belgium has come at the right time in more ways than one for the 30-year-old, as the Foxes look to recover from a disappointing 4-1 loss to Liverpool over the weekend.

“It’s a present that we made ourselves from last season,” said Fuchs. “Personally I can’t wait to play in the Champions League for our fans.

“That’s the good thing about it. We lost against Liverpool, but on Wednesday we’ve got a chance to put everything on the right course again.”

While Leicester have yet to really hit their stride this season, Saturday’s game marked a special achievement for captain Wes Morgan.

Celebrating his 200th game in the Leicester shirt, the former Kidderminster man wrote himself into Foxes folklore by lifting the Premier League aloft last season, with Fuchs believing the praise is much-deserved.

“Wes is a big presence on and off the pitch,” he added. “He’s simply the leader in the locker-room and also on the pitch, and we’re lucky to have him.
