Hendrick: Sean Dyche decisive in Burnley move

Burnley new boy Jeff Hendrick admits the thought of working under Sean Dyche was a big factor in his record-breaking move to Turf Moor.

The 24-year-old played more than 200 times for Derby County but moved to the Premier League outfit on deadline day for what is understood to be a club record fee, following an impressive European Championship campaign with the Republic of Ireland.

The Dubliner will not join up with his new teammates for a week as he is on international duty, but admits he will be picking the brains of Ireland teammate Stephen Ward to ensure he makes the best possible impression at the Clarets.

“Sean (Dyche) was a big influence,” he said.  “We had a chat and I talked to a lot of players who have played under him, such as Jason Shackell, Lee Grant and Chris Baird, and heard nothing but positive things.

“You know they are going to be honest with what they tell you – and I was happy with what I heard.

“People have told me I’ll work hard, but that I’ll enjoy it and that’s the main thing because I’m here to work hard and get results.

“It’s a little weird signing for a club and not meeting everyone for more than a week, but I am really looking forward to getting back and training with the lads.

“You want to get in and find out how they train and get used to being around them. I know that will be tough but I’ll talk to Stephen Ward and I’m sure he’ll give me some insights!”
