Herrera: Manchester United love affair with Mourinho remains strong

Jose Mourinho’s honeymoon at Manchester United may have come to an abrupt end on derby day but midfielder Ander Herrera insists he and his teammates are still besotted with their new boss.

With three Premier League wins out of three and a Community Shield success to boot, it was all going perfectly for Mourinho until the blue half of the city invaded Old Trafford last Saturday.

Pep Guardiola and co left with a 2-1 win but in truth, after a vibrant first-half display from City, the scoreline could have been greater.

But according to Herrera, Mourinho has been his usual bullish self around the Carrington corridors this week – and that confidence has only rubbed off on the team.

“We are very, very comfortable with this manager,” said the midfielder. “Every training session we are enjoying. I feel very good when I have played. I feel his confidence every day and I think all my team-mates are the same.

“He is very close with us so you feel important, you feel part of this. That’s the most important thing – when you feel part of something and he is showing to all of us that he’s going to give time to everyone.

“If you want to make a good season, if you want to win trophies, you cannot do it with 12, 13 players.

“Everyone is going to be important and everyone is going to get his moment. We have a good squad and we play with freedom because we feel the confidence of our manager.”
