Leicester’s Vardy confident he could have succeeded at Arsenal

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has revealed he was confident he could have been a success at Arsenal and even began looking at schools in the capital.

Vardy was close to a move to the North London club in the summer prior to England’s Euro 2016 campaign before deciding to stay in the East Midlands.

The 29-year-old has scored three goals for the Foxes so far this season, the same number as new signing Islam Slimani and Riyad Mahrez.

And speaking to The Sun newspaper, the England striker said being a smaller fish in a bigger pond was not something that fazed him.

“One thing that didn’t worry me was the idea that I wouldn’t be the ‘main man’ at Arsenal,” he said.

“Every time I’ve moved, I’ve managed to meet the challenge in front of me.

“We even looked at new schools for the children, but I got to the stage where I felt with my heart and head that I wanted to stay at Leicester.

“It wasn’t to do with ‘loyalty’ or how I feel about my team-mates.

“Players always come and go. It was more a case of seeing Leicester as a club that wanted to build on what we achieved with the title and I want to be part of that.”
