Livermore insists Hull City’s morale is high despite big losses to Liverpool and Arsenal

Jake Livermore insists the morale of Hull City’s players has not been hampered by heavy defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal in recent weeks.

The Tigers were beaten 5-1 at the Reds on Saturday and lost 4-1 at home to the Gunners the weekend before, after what was a positive start to the campaign under interim boss in Mike Phelan. (pictured below)

But former Spurs midfielder Livermore stated the players remain upbeat, a point which may be backed up by Hull recording 2-1 victory over Stoke City in the EFL Cup either side of their big defeats.

Mike Phelan

Livermore said: “It’s been a tough run in terms of the fixtures and the teams we have played so far, but it’s just the way the cookie has crumbled and we have to play everybody twice over the course of a season,” said Livermore.

“The last two defeats have been hard to take, and we haven’t exactly helped ourselves by going down to ten men early in both games, but there were still positives to take from both games.

“Our confidence hasn’t been affected at all. It’s been said many times, but we do have a set of players and staff here that are close-knit and Mike (Phelan) has been brilliant for us.

“We analyse the opposition deeply, looking at where there might be weaknesses to exploit.”
