Lloris issues rallying cry to Tottenham team-mates
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has urged his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates not to undo all of last season’s hard work by bowing out of the Champions League with a whimper.
Spurs finished third in the Premier League table last term, to ensure they would compete in Europe’s premier club competition for the first time since the 2010/11 season when they reached the quarter-finals.
However, their hotly-anticipated return to the Champions League, in front of a record 85,011 crowd at Wembley Stadium, proved something of an anti-climax as Mauricio Pochettino’s men lost 2-1 to Monaco.
Spurs have trips to CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen to come in Group E, before their next appearance at the national stadium.
And captain Lloris is expecting better.

“We fought all last season to get into the Champions League and now we’re in the Champions League, we need to enjoy it, but we need to perform well,” said the 29-year-old.
“The season is long, it’s our first loss and there is big disappointment because there was a lot of expectation in the Champions League.
“We need to learn as quickly as possible from this game because we still have a chance to go through with five games left.
“It was a privilege to play at Wembley, the atmosphere was unbelievable and the fans deserved more from us.”
