Manquillo settled after Sunderland move
Javier Manquillo may have unhappy memories of the Premier League after Liverpool cut short his stay a year ago, but the new Sunderland defender insists he cannot wait to get stuck in this season.
Manquillo joined Liverpool on a two-year loan in 2014 but a disappointing first season prompted then-boss Brendan Rodgers to cut him loose and send him back to Atletico Madrid.
Now the 22-year-old is back in England on a season-long loan at Sunderland, and he made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Southampton before the international break.
Striker Fabio Borini, who was also at Liverpool, has helped the full-back settle into life in the northeast, but Manquillo says he is already comfortable in his new surroundings.

“I have been here for a couple of weeks and the way I have been treated is fantastic, people are very friendly with me and I think I am integrating with the club very well,” he said.
“I am looking forward to playing more continuously after the international break. I have had time to work with the manager and with the lads and I am looking forward to meeting our targets this season.
“It was a real shame we lost the three points [against Southampton] but we are looking forward to getting three points in our next home game against Everton.”
