Martins Indi vows to shine in Premier League

Bruno Martins Indi knows he must raise his game if he is to be a success in the Premier League after being convinced by his compatriots to move to Stoke City.

The defender joined the Potters on a season-long loan deal from Porto just before the transfer window slammed shut on Wednesday.

Though a 32-time capped international for Holland, Martins Indi came under fire in his home nation last year after being sent off for a striking a player in a fateful Euro 2016 qualifying defeat to Iceland – who proceeded to set the finals alight.

But the 24-year-old has vowed to knuckle down and make a name for himself for all the right reasons after being convinced by fellow Dutchmen Erik Pieters and Ibrahim Afellay to switch to Stoke.

“I’m ready to work hard and I need to be ready because this is such a strong league,” he said.

“I’m expecting good football and a competition that is very tough, so I need to be prepared for it but it is a challenge I am excited about.

“I spoke to Erik Pieters and Ibrahim Afellay before joining and they both had nothing but good things to say about Stoke City.

“The manager was also an important key in me coming here. He is a successful coach and I am looking to working under him and developing myself further as a player.

“I’m very happy to be here and it is going to be a new experience that I am really looking forward to.”
