Mason expects big things at Hull

Ryan Mason may have experienced life at the top of the Premier League with Tottenham, but the Hull City midfielder insists now is his time to shine.

The 25-year-old joined the Tigers for a reported £13m last month after spending his entire career at White Hart Lane, where he struggled to break into the team under Mauricio Pochettino last season.

Hull made a fast start to the season with back-to-back victories against champions Leicester and Swansea, but they have since lost to Manchester United and were reliant on Robert Snodgrass’ last-minute winner for a point at Burnley.

However, with a big season to come at the KCOM Stadium, Mason is also harbouring plenty of personal aims.

“I put a lot of pressure on myself. I’ve been at a big club, played in some big games and I’ve come here to bring that experience,” he said.

“I’m here to improve the squad and help the team. From an individual point of view, I want to kick on and improve as a player.”

Mason is the latest to make the trip from North London to East Yorkshire, following the likes of Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore.

And Mason feels he has already settled in at the club.

“I know three of the lads from my previous club and the rest of the lads have been brilliant as well,” he said.

“They’ve made me feel welcome, training’s been good and it’s been a good week. There are some big characters here, and some good lads.

“Training’s intense but it’s a good place to be and we’re looking forward to the weekend.”
