Monreal sure Mustafi will be a hit at Arsenal

There will be no settling in period needed for Arsenal newboy Shkodran Mustafi at the Emirates, according to Gunners defender Nacho Monreal.

The Spanish full-back is convinced a previous spell Mustafi enjoyed with Everton in the Premier League, coupled with his close friendship with Mesut Özil, will see the German be a hit in England immediately.

Mustafi, a German international defender, has already witnessed firsthand the high intensity and physicality of the Premier League, meaning a period of transition will not be required.

And after seeing Mustafi, who also speaks English, strut his stuff in training this week, Monreal is convinced manager Arsene Wenger has signed an Emirates star of the future.

“He will find it easy to adapt to the club,” said Monreal. “He has already lived abroad, he speaks the language and he knows Mesut.

“All those elements will lessen the impact of changing environments. Luckily for him, he will feel at home from the very first day.

“Mustafi is a player I like. He is experienced and really tough to beat, which makes him very suitable for the Premier League’s style.

“We really needed to bring a centre back to the club considering Per Mertesacker and Gabriel’s injuries, as well as Calum Chambers’ departure on loan.

“I hope he feels happy here from the very beginning so he can do for us what he does best.”
