Pochettino happy with Spurs squad depth

Tottenham Hotspur may have had a disastrous start to their Champions League campaign, but manager Mauricio Pochettino insists he has a squad capable of competing for domestic and European trophies.

Spurs sit second in the Premier League table after an encouraging start which has brought them four wins and two draws.

But they lost 2-1 to Monaco in their first Champions League match in five years at Wembley Stadium earlier this month and face a challenge to get through their group.

Pochettino strengthened his squad over the summer with the additions of Victor Wanyama, Vincent Janssen, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko and the Argentine believes they are well covered all over the pitch.

“When you play in the Champions League, a new competition for us, it’s important to have a strong squad and to sign players that can compete between each other,” he said.

“It’s because of that I think it was good that we signed those players.

“We are competitive, now we are a bit unlucky with injuries but we have depth in the squad and it’s a good opportunity for the players that don’t play too much.

“In football the squad is important, the 25 players are important.

“Now we have some players that are injured but it’s important for the squad and the team that all are ready to play.”
