Simpson tips Slimani to shine with Foxes

Islam Slimani got off the mark for new club Leicester City on Saturday and Jay Simpson believes that’s just the start for the Algerian international.

The 28-year-old arrived in the summer from Sporting Lisbon, for a club record fee, and made a dream start to life at the King Power Stadium with two goals on his home debut.

That was enough to help Leicester to a 3-0 win over Burnley, and after a slow start, the Foxes appear to be finding form, having also got a win on their Champions League debut during the week.

And after the exploits of fellow Algerian Riyad Mahrez last term, Simpson expects Slimani to follow in his footsteps.

“It’s great for Islam to get his first goals for the club and especially at home for the fans to see what he can do. That’ll give him a boost. I think overall the performance was perfect,” said Simpson.

“He’s slotted in well. It’s obviously good for him that Riyad is here. He obviously knows him from the Algeria national team so he knows him really well.

“He’s integrated really well with everyone and the type of player he is, he works his socks off. He’s what we’re all about in training and games, so it’s been easy for him to slot in.”
