Stat-topping Luiz delighted to return to the ‘best games in the world’

David Luiz topped the stats on his return to the Blue of Chelsea and couldn’t be happier to be back playing in the “best games in the world”.

Passes, touches, clearances, possession gained and even shots: Luiz led the way for the lot in his ‘second debut’ for Chelsea on Friday night.

The night ultimately ended in disappointment as the Blues were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool but the Brazilian was delighted to be back at Stamford Bridge following his £34million move from PSG.

“I am very happy to be back playing these sort of games, the best games in the world,” Luiz said.

“But I am just a bit sad because I didn’t start how I wished.

“Now I am looking forward to the other games, they never stop. We need to improve, we need to do better to win games.”

The Reds’ victory was made possible partly due to some questionable defending from Chelsea for Dejan Lovren’s opener, as the defender was one of three players to be left unmarked following a short free-kick.

And Luiz explained: “Normally you have a line to defend the free-kick but they played short and they played quickly, and we didn’t organise the line quickly so that is why they had two or three free players at the back and they scored a goal.

“This is the Premier League. When you make a mistake and don’t pay attention, particularly from the free-kick, you pay.”
