Trippier prepared to be patient at Tottenham

Kieran Trippier knows dislodging Kyle Walker from Tottenham Hotspur’s regular right-back slot is an unenviable task, but is determined to knuckle down and prove his worth when chances arise.

Walker has been one of Spurs’ most consistent players in the last 18 months, limiting Trippier to just six Premier League appearances since his £3.5million move from Burnley in June 2015.

However, with Spurs currently in the midst of a hectic schedule Trippier was thrust into the starting line-up for Tuesday’s Champions League group stage tie with CSKA Moscow.

The 26-year-old barely put a foot wrong as Mauricio Pochettino’s men kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win that boosted their chances of qualifying for the last 16.

And Trippier is determined to experience more highs in lilywhite.

“Ever since I was a young boy I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level, I’ve been given the opportunity and I fully enjoyed it,” he said.

“Hopefully I can keep training well and every opportunity I get I’ll keep playing well.

“It’s only my second game this season but I’m delighted, it’s the Champions League!

“Kyle Walker has been doing very well, so I’ve just got to keep training hard and make sure I’m ready when I’m called upon and I’ll do my best for the team.”
