Wijnaldum blown away by Liverpool team-mates

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum admits he had no idea quite how talented his Liverpool team-mates were until he began rubbing shoulders with them on Merseyside.

The £25million summer signing played twice against Liverpool last year for Newcastle United, scoring in a 2-0 win over the Reds in December and was a half-time substitute in the corresponding game at Anfield as the Toon Army overturned a two-goal deficit at the interval to nab a point.

Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League table last season but look to have been transformed over the summer by boss Jurgen Klopp into genuine title contenders, having blown away Arsenal, Chelsea and champions Leicester City already this term.

And the free-scoring Reds have certainly made a good first impression on Wijnaldum.

“You can see how good the players are,” said the 25-year-old Holland international.

“Before this, I didn’t have a clue how good everyone is, but now that I train with them every day I can see how good everyone is – it’s a really talented group.

“And also the young players who come to the first team are talented. Everything has surprised me.

“Everyone here is doing their best to give me a good feeling and it gives me a good feeling.

“Step-by-step, I will have the best feeling.”
