Busy period not a problem for Southampton’s Ward-Prowse

There may be some who bemoan having a congested fixture list but Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse is not one of those.

With Southampton battling on multiple fronts  this season in the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Europa Cup, it makes for a busy time for the players.

Ward-Prowse has also had to contend with international duties having helped England Under-21s to qualify for next summer’s European Championships with a 1-0 win over Kazakhstan.

But far from moaning about being tired, the 21-year-old is relishing the workload, insisting momentum is growing all the time, especially with the Saints currently on a six-match unbeaten run.

“The run has given us a lot of confidence,” he said. “There has been a lot of squad rotation and everyone has come in and done really well, so there are a lot of positive signs and hopefully we can carry on this momentum.

“Mentally it is positive because you are eager for the next game. It is going to be a tough few games coming up with some long trips, so I think these wins can obviously help that as well.

“It is obviously a bit of a different season with the volume of games so there are a lot of changes but the detail we have been working to has been very important.

“This is the perks of being an international player.”
