Chalobah looking to set the example at Chelsea for younger brother
Nathaniel Chalobah is still every bit the youngster in the Chelsea ranks, but admits at home he is anything but with his kid brother Trevoh in tow at the Blues.
The 21-year-old’s career is now catching fire under Antonio Conte after he fulfilled his dream of making his Chelsea debut last month as a substitute during the EFL Cup third round win over Leicester City, and he made his Premier League bow last weekend as a late replacement at Hull City.
His talent is not news to Chelsea fans however as he was a crucial cog in Gianfranco Zola’s Watford side that reached the Championship play-off final at 18, before testing himself on the continent last season on loan at Napoli.
But while he is very much the rookie in Conte’s side, Chalobah is all too aware he has to set the right example for 17-year-old Trevoh – who recently signed his first professional contract and also captained England’s Under-17 side at this summer’s European Championships.
“It’s about being a good example, more than anything,” said Nathaniel. “When I go on the pitch I try and do the best I can because I know I have younger brothers who look up to me.
“Trev’s here, my other brother Paul is playing locally for a team, he’s 16. When I was growing up I always had to deal with things myself. I think you learn more that way rather than someone telling you to do this or that.
“When the time is the right Trev will get advice from me, but most of the time he has to deal with it himself because if he doesn’t go through those experiences himself I don’t know how he’s going to be able to learn.
“If I have made mistakes, I don’t want him to make the same ones so there are times I will give him advice, but also let him make his own decisions.
“I’m really proud of him, and I just want him to do well.”
