Cresswell thrilled to be back in Hammers action

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell insists he couldn’t be happier to be back in action following his spell on the treatment table and hopes to be in contention for the Hammers’ next Premier League clash.

Cresswell was forced to miss the start of the season after picking up a knee ligament injury during West Ham’s pre-season tie with Karlsruher SC.

There were concerns the 26-year-old would be out of action for four to six weeks, but Cresswell has made a speedy recovery, all thanks, he insists, to the Hammers medical team.

He played 50 minutes against West Ham’s PL2 side on Thursday and with another week to go until their next Premier League game against Crystal Palace, Cresswell is quietly confident he can earn a recall into Slaven Bilic’s matchday squad.

“It feels good to be back out there training with the lads and not being stuck in the gym or the treatment room as I look to get the knee right,” he said.

“I could not have asked anymore from the physios, especially Eamon, our rehab fitness coach who has helped me out massively over the last 12 weeks.

“It is not just the body, it is the mind as well that you have to get right. For me this is the first time I have had a long-term injury and hopefully it will be the last.

“I am looking forward to getting back in contention. I have played 50 minutes and the knee feels good. I am looking forward to next week.”
