Forster proud of Saints’ defensive record
Southampton have the third best defensive record in the Premier League and it’s an achievement that goalkeeper Fraser Forster is particularly proud of.
Only Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have conceded less than the seven let in by Claude Puel’s men, after eight games in the Premier League.
Before Burnley’s late consolation goal at the weekend, Southampton had kept clean sheets in their last seven games in all competitions, dating back to a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on September 10.
But Forster explained that such a strong record is down to the entire team, not just the back four and himself.
“We kind of said it last year when we went on a good run that it’s all about the team and it’s been the same for this run,” he said.

“It’s been really important. It makes it easier to win games if you’re not letting in many goals. I think we’re all really proud of it.
“It’s been a lot of hard work and we’ve performed really well in games and we’ve looked very strong at the back and that can only be a positive sign of things to come.
“I think what we’ve done now has set the standard for how we need to play for the rest of the season and we’ll have to try to replicate that in every game we play.”
