Janssen looking to thank Spurs fans for support

Vincent Janssen is desperate to repay the Spurs faithful for their support of him after a tricky start to his career at White Hart Lane.

The Dutch striker joined Tottenham for £17m in the summer and has been thrust into leading the line with Harry Kane out injured.

Janssen has scored three goals for his new club with yesterday’s successful penalty in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City his first in the Premier League.

And the 22-year-old admitted he was desperate to take the spot kick after he was brought down by Foxes defender Robert Huth.

“The fans have been right behind me all the time, they are such good supporters and I wanted to give them something back,” he said. “I’m glad I was able to do that with a  goal.”

“I thought ‘this is my penalty’. The gaffer threw the ball to me and when I stood behind it, I knew it was going to be a goal. It was a great moment.

“That’s what you have to do, that’s my job and I was delighted to get one today.  I want to help the team, holding the ball, that’s what I’m like as a striker and I’ll go on like that, I want to be more than a goalscorer.”
