Morrison itching for more game time at West Brom

James Morrison admits he is desperate for more game time at West Brom this season, and hopes Claudio Yacob’s suspension will lead to exactly that.

Despite signing a new contract with the Baggies in the summer, Morrison has found few opportunities to show manager Tony Pulis what he can do.

However, this weekend the 30-year-old came off the bench in the 51st minute of a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool and played more Premier League minutes at Anfield than the rest of the season combined.

And Morrison is hoping that is just the beginning.

“It was nice to get some minutes after being out so long,” he said.

“I think my last start was on January 13. It’s been ten months, that’s a long time. It’s not easy being on the sidelines.

“You get out on the pitch and try to get your bearings again. Once I got ten minutes under my belt I started to feel a lot more comfortable.”

Claudio Yacob

This weekend’s game against Manchester City at the Hawthorns sees fellow midfielder Yacob suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

When Morrison was asked if Yacob’s ban gave him a chance of starting against City, he added: “A little sniff maybe!

“But there’s several players in that same boat. It would be nice to get some minutes because I’m itching for a game.”
