Simpson relieved to see Foxes’ fighting spirit

A stubborn defensive display and the fighting spirit they demonstrated so regularly last season were key to Leicester City’s first away point of the season according to Danny Simpson.

After heavy Premier League defeats to Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea on the road, the Foxes finally picked up an away point at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

It was performance akin to Leicester’s amazing Premier League title winning season last term as they fought back from conceding a first-half penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw.

And Simpson was quick to praise the team’s hard-working ethos which prevented a fifth straight league defeat on the road.

“It’s been tough on the road this season and so it was massively important that we didn’t have another away loss,” he said.

“Everyone helped each other, everyone was communicating and everyone was covering – that’s exactly what we’re about.”

“I think it was a good point in the end and I’m just happy that we battled right to the end. We don’t like to concede goals and today we didn’t from open play.

“The positive was our reaction to going 1-0 down, where in recent away games we’ve gone 1-0 down and let our heads drop a little – we carried on doing what Leicester do.

“Their goal gave us an edge to keep fighting and there’s no better time to get a goal back than just after half-time – that kicked us on for the rest of the game.”
