Stones convinced Manchester City will respond to mini-slump

Manchester City are experiencing their first blip under Pep Guardiola but John Stones says all the evidence points to a swift return to form.

Maarten Stekelenburg was City’s nemesis at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, making two penalty saves as Everton held on to snatch a point.

The Sky Blues remain top of the league for now though have shown frailty of late as they headed into their clash with the Toffees following defeat to Tottenham and a draw with Celtic.

Prior to that they had been on a ten-game winning streak, however, and £47.5m-man Stones insists no panic buttons are being pressed.

“In the last three games it’s two draws and a loss but before that we were on such a great run,” said the defender. “For everyone that’s seen the game, the attacking threat we had, the excitement, I think it’s good for the future and hopefully we can get back to winning ways.

“We’ve gone on such a great run, we still got a point, it’s the least of what we wanted, I thought we should have had three.

“But it’s credit to Everton and Stekelenburg – he pulled off some great saves, two penalty saves, which it made it difficult for us.”
