Alexis: Squad depth can lead Gunners to title

Arsenal’s Premier League drought is 13 years and counting but Alexis Sanchez believes the squad depth at the club this year will enable them to end that long wait.

The Gunners last lifted the Premier League trophy at the end of the 2003-04 season and despite finishing in the top four every year since, they are yet to top the pile again.

Yet Alexis is convinced that this campaign will be different, with his side currently riding a 16-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and sitting just two points off table-toppers Liverpool.

And the Chilean international – who has lifted one FA Cup so far in his Arsenal career – insists the players are desperate to fulfil their potential.

“I think we’re even more determined to achieve something and win the Premier League, but you have to take it slow,” said Alexis.

“We have a great team, our ambitions are high and we want to win the league.

“We’ve got some new players and a fantastic squad. Regardless of who’s playing, we all need to be 100 per cent focused on our work with the team and the club.

“Sometimes you might have an off day and you need a player to come off the bench and help you out, so that’s why the squad players are just as important as the starting XI.

“Everything comes down to what happens from now on. All games are different and anything can happen in football.

“An important player might get injured – someone might leave, someone else might stay. It’s tough to keep it going, but if we stick together and keep putting the running in, I think this team can win it all.”
