Anichebe wants Sunderland to make Fortress of Light
Sunderland’s vital first win over the season may have been all the way down in Bournemouth, but Victor Anichebe insists the key to Premier League survival is home support.
It took first-half goals from Anichebe and veteran striker Jermain Defoe to bag a 2-1 victory and David Moyes’ first three-pointer of the year.
“We need to make the Stadium of Light a fortress,” said Anichebe. “I’ve watched Sunderland in the past and I know it is a really difficult place for teams to come.

“I always call on the support of the fans and if they continue to roar us on like they did in the last game then it will give us a great push to pick up a victory on Saturday.
“The win at Bournemouth was pleasing and relieving but we can’t rely on that one game and we really need to push on from here.
“When we went down to ten men we could have crumbled – many teams would have – because it was difficult for us for a good ten minutes, but I turned to the fans and said ‘come on’ and they really got behind us.”
