De Bruyne: City not underestimating Boro test

Manchester City could be forgiven for revelling in their incredible midweek win over Barcelona, but Kevin De Bruyne says they are full focused on their clash with Middlesbrough this weekend.

De Bruyne netted once, and Ilkay Gundogan twice, as City came from a goal behind to down Barca 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium and take control of second spot in Champions League Group C.

Pep Guardiola’s troops are also currently top of the Premier League, albeit only on goal difference, making Saturday’s clash with Boro vital.

City will deservedly be heavy favourites hosting the newly-promoted outfit, but De Bruyne insists that beating one of the best teams in Europe just a few days before doesn’t guarantee anything.

“Obviously everyone will talk about it because it was Barcelona, but if you lose at the weekend it doesn’t matter what happened in the Champions League,” said the attacking midfielder.

“We have to do the same as we did in these two games and try to win against Middlesbrough to go into the international break with a good series and try to maintain top spot in the league.

“It is very difficult. Everybody will give everything they have got against us. We have to do what we know how to do.

“The game against Middlesbrough is going to be another tough test.”
