Hull City’s 17-year-old Josh Tymon has the talent – Phelan
Mike Phelan had no hesitation in throwing 17-year-old Josh Tymon in for his Premier League debut on Saturday – and the Tigers boss believes he’s unearthed a real gem at Hull City.
Tymon has come through the academy ranks at Hull and impressed staff at the KCOM Stadium in a number of cup fixtures so far this season.
With injuries stretching the Tigers squad close to breaking point, Tymon looks unlikely to be the last youngster to be given an opportunity by Phelan this season.
But the manager is confident that the young left-back, who is rumoured to be the subject of interest from Arsenal, has what it takes to be a real success at the highest level.
“It was time to give a young player an opportunity. We all remember our league debuts and Josh (Tymon) will remember his because I thought he did extremely well,” he said.

“There’s a talent there with Josh. He’s somebody who wants to progress in the football arena and he has now made his Premier League debut.
“He has serious potential and going forward we have to handle that.
“I’ve got no problem with playing these young players. Young players bring that different enthusiasm and hope, and I don’t think anybody could be disappointed with Josh or Jarrod (Bowen) on Saturday.”
