Keane: Clarets’ draw at Old Trafford proves doubters wrong

Burnley defender Michael Keane believes last weekend’s draw with Manchester United more than proves the Clarets are deserving of their place in the Premier League.

The centre-half played a pivotal role in Burnley’s 0-0 stalemate at Old Trafford, a game in which they faced 37 shots from Jose Mourinho’s side.

The draw secured the club’s third clean sheet of the season and their first point away from Turf Moor, and that, for 23-year-old Keane, only serves to boost the team’s confidence as they look to prove the doubters wrong.

“A lot has been made about our away form so to go to Old Trafford and get a point is a massive step for us and we can kick on from here,” he said.

“I think this shows people what we can do. We have belief in the changing room and I think we may have surprised a few people recently.”

A former United trainee himself, Keane was quick to praise Burnley’s defensive unit, as well as goalkeeper and fellow former Red Devil Tom Heaton.

“Everyone put in a great shift leading from the back. Against quality players you’re going to get a lot of shots against you and Heats was fantastic with that,” he said.

“Obviously the fans and some of the staff and players know us from our time here, but we just had to focus on what was happening on the pitch and I thought that we dealt with it well.”
