Phelan eyeing up youth for Tigers resurgence
Hull City boss Mike Phelan admits he’s likely to be calling up plenty more young players as injuries continue to undermine his efforts to get out of the relegation zone.
The Tigers are 18th in the Premier League after 12 games and were beaten 3-0 by fellow strugglers Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, a seventh defeat in eight top-flight matches.
Jermain Defoe opened the scoring with his 150th Premier League goal but it was a double from a rejuvenated Victor Anichebe which ended the game as a contest.

With Abel Hernandez, Will Keane, Moses Odubajo, Alex Bruce and Allan McGregor all in the physio room, Hull’s resources are being seriously stretched.
And after giving Josh Tymon his senior debut for the club at the Stadium of Light, Phelan agrees it is likely he won’t be the last with the transfer window still weeks away from re-opening.
“We’ve got lots of players injured, none of them are going anywhere,” he said.
“We are where we are. We’ve got 18 fit players. We’ve given a debut to Josh Tymon and another chance for Jarrod Bowen, who I thought did exceptionally well when he came on.
“We might have to introduce one or two more in the next few weeks. A bit of youth gives everybody a lift.”
