Pickford positive Sunderland will find home comforts
Sunderland finally earned their first Premier League win of the season away to Bournemouth last weekend – but Jordan Pickford says his side will not rest until they bring some joy to the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have not won at home this term but, as remarkable as it seems now, they ended last year’s campaign with home wins over Chelsea and Everton under Sam Allardyce.
With the Allardyce era long in the history books, new boss David Moyes has come under fire but Jermain Defoe’s winner against the Cherries earned the ex-Manchester United and Everton manager some respite.

Pickford was also crucial to Sunderland’s cause, facing seven shots on target in the 2-1 victory, and he insists his side will now go into next weekend’s must-win home clash with fellow strugglers Hull on a high.
“We’re over the moon with [the win] because we stuck together as a team from front to back,” said the 22-year-old, who was called up by the England senior team this week.
“We were top drawer as a unit and it just shows how we were willing to have the grit and determination to not concede another goal.
“We were always going to be under the cosh going down to ten men given their momentum but we made blocks, made saves and then JD (Jermain Defoe) finished off a penalty.
“We dug in as a team again, kept the goals out and got the win.
“When we get back [from the international break] it will be straight back on the training pitch because we need to go again and get our first home win of the season against Hull City.”
