Watford cannot afford to look beyond securing safety, says Britos

Watford look to be halfway to securing Premier League safety already, but defender Miguel Britos insists their ambitions do not extend beyond remaining in the division.

Ahead of Sunday’s visit from Stoke City the Hornets were in the top half of the table, having lost just one of their last six games.

But 31-year-old Britos says Watford are not thinking about a surprise push for European qualification, instead their goal remains survival.

“I’m not surprised by our league position because we have improved as a team and gained a lot of new players,” he said.

“We are a good team.

“We don’t want to put our objective before the end of the season. We try to win every match and then we will see where we arrive, but the first thing is to stay in the Premier League.

“We are doing well. We don’t have a secret, we just train very hard and try to do what the gaffer wants.

“We try and improve upon our mistakes and learn.

“We analyse every match and every single situation. And that is paying off. When you work hard you will get the result.

“We are doing well, but we always try to improve.”
