Courtois astonished by Chelsea’s defensive turnaround
After a 3-0 humbling at Arsenal back in September, Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admits for the side to have only conceded two more in the league since then is beyond belief.
The Blues’ remarkable turnaround under Antonio Conte has seen them pick up 12 straight Premier League victories, with Belgian stopper Courtois keeping 10 clean sheets in that time.
And the 24-year-old insists that concentration on his part has been the key factor in his performances, with Chelsea’s rock-solid defensive set-up keeping attempts on goal few and far between.
“Letting in only two goals is amazing,” he said. “After that Arsenal game we had to build a new thing and we did it well, and there is a lot of hard work in training.
“As a goalkeeper it doesn’t change much but now we are more solid at the back than at the beginning of the season, it is harder for people to break us down, and when they do try to score a goal I try to save it.
“Concentration is a big factor. If you keep on shouting and being busy with the game you are always staying in it, and that is one of my strong points.
“I learned a lot of it when I was at Atletico (Madrid) which was a bit the same as now, so I just try to be there for that one big save that can help us win a game.”
