Fernando: Manchester City must keep pressing

Fernando is urging his Manchester City teammates not to ease off amidst the festive cheer, insisting the next two months could define their season.

Last Sunday’s come-from-behind victory over Arsenal saw City record their 11th league win of the season and moved them onto 36 points, enough for third spot at Christmas.

Liverpool are a point better off while leaders Chelsea have accumulated 43 points, helped by 11 straight wins on the spin.

Fernando and the Citizens now face a run of four games in 11 days, with a Boxing Day trip to Hull City first up before games against Liverpool and Burnley and then an FA Cup third round clash with West Ham.

And after the team came strong in the second half against Arsenal to win at the weekend, Fernando is after more of the same for the upcoming busy spell.

“We know that our calendar is very busy at the end of the year, but it is the most important period of the season,” he said.

“December and January are vital. We have to keep ourselves near the top of the table to be ready when it comes close to the end of the season.

“We have to repeat what we did in the second half against Arsenal. Aggression and pressing.

“We did not let Arsenal breathe in the second half. If we do this, I am sure we will win.”
