Huddlestone wants to take Tigers cup form into league

They may be through to the EFL Cup semi-finals, but Hull City’s Tom Huddlestone now wants his side to show their knockout form in the Premier League.

Enjoying a mini-renaissance in the league with four points from their last three games, Huddlestone has asked for more from his colleagues, and himself, as they head into Monday’s clash with Middlesbrough still entrenched in the relegation zone.

And after an up and down run, including two wins in their last four in all competitions, but also a 3-0 loss to Sunderland and a home draw with West Brom, the former Spurs and England midfielder says consistency is the key to getting out of the drop zone.

“We need to be picking up a lot more points in the league,” said the 29-year-old.

“We’ve been a bit hit and miss recently, so we need to find a consistency and start putting our chances away.

“We also need to get back to being solid in defence like we were at the start of the season.

“Hopefully what we’ve done in the cup will be a boost to us in the league, which is where we need to knuckle down.

“It’s over a month until the first leg of the semi-final, so it’s about playing well in the league now.

“We need to start taking the initiative in games because we’ve had to come from behind a few times recently.

“Middlesbrough have had a few positive results against big teams recently. We saw their quality in the Championship last season and they’ve only added to that since.

“But we’ll go there and try and stamp our authority on the game.”
