Le Tissier buoyed by Saints’ mid-season position
A legend at the Dell, Matt Le Tissier has given his mid-season verdict on the Southampton players now entertaining the St Mary’s faithful – and they get a glowing report.
Saints have made a habit of progress in recent years, even with having talented managers and key players regularly departing the south coast for pastures new.
But with Ronald Koeman’s departure in the summer, many predicted this would be the time for it to all come crashing down – only it hasn’t.
Little-known Frenchman Claude Puel has guided Saints to seventh in the Premier League table ahead of the busy festive schedule, as well as a semi-final spot in the League Cup, and Le Tissier is pleased with what he has seen so far.
“There are chances in every single game we play, especially here at St Mary’s,” he said.

“It’s been good when you consider that we’re seventh in the Premier League and in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup. I’m pretty pleased with where we’re sat.
“There’s going to be less fixtures in the second half of the season which will help us a little bit I think.
“I don’t think we’ve reached our full potential so far this season if I’m honest.
“There have been times where it has been a little bit of a struggle, yet we still find ourselves in seventh position at Christmas.
“If we can really hit our straps there’s no reason why we can’t improve on that position.
“You know what’s in front of you now and you know there’s not too much to fear.”
