Lloris and Spurs prove their mental strength

Hugo Lloris insists Tottenham have the right mental approach to withstand the pressure and mount a serious Premier League title challenge this season.

After Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United had all won over Christmas, Tottenham knew nothing but three points against Southampton was going to be good enough.

Tottenham produced an emphatic response at St Mary’s as they ran riot on the South Coast against Southampton, scoring four goals and moving back to within a point of North London neighbours Arsenal in fifth position.

Spurs travel to Vicarage Road again on Sunday, where they will face a determined Watford side and Lloris is targeting more of the same.

“Of course, those teams put a little pressure on us with their good results but with the right mentality you can do great things, like we did against Southampton,” said Lloris.

“It’s not easy, we started the game in the worst way possible, but we had a great reaction.

“We took control and showed our quality and skills and made the difference. It was a great performance and a great result. We raised our level all together.

“We know Southampton is a tough place to come and for sure, they will get points against the top teams in this league.”
