Mazzarri wants more goals from Hornets

Head coach Walter Mazzarri wants more goals from Watford after highlighting clinical finishing as his side’s main area for improvement.

Odion Ighalo has so far failed to replicate the start he enjoyed last season while Troy Deeney has been stuck on 99 Hornets goals since October.

Fellow striker Stefano Okaka scored twice against Everton to give his side a 3-2 win but otherwise there’s been a distinct lack of goals from the Watford front men.

And Mazzarri knows his side must be more clinical in front of goal if they’re to maintain a healthy distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

“I see mainly the performances and not too much on the end of the result,” he said.

“I see the performances and the way we play. Of course there are some things we need to improve and that’s to score.

“All the other teams I see, when they get to the area and the final 20m, manage to score the clearest occasions and we don’t, so this is something we need to work on.

“If you look at the game against Everton we had some chances, Okaka took them and we won the game.

“Against Sunderland the chances were even easier than the ones against Everton but if we don’t score we don’t win.”
