Sinclair determined to take his chances for Watford

The result might not have been what he wanted but Watford forward Jerome Sinclair is hungry for more action after making his first Premier League start against Manchester City.

Summer signing Sinclair was paired with last season’s top scorer Odion Ighalo on Wednesday night as manager Walter Mazzarri opted for a new-look front line against the Citizens.

It was a gamble that didn’t pay off as City ran out 2-0 winners with Sinclair, making his full debut following a £4m summer move from Liverpool, struggling to make a meaningful impact.

The 20-year-old became the Reds’ youngest-ever player when he appeared at the age of 16 years and six days, but left Anfield in search of more first-team opportunities.

And with this week representing another step towards that goal, Sinclair is determined to keep putting the hard yards in to establish himself in England’s top division.

“It was a little bit bittersweet. Obviously to get my first Premier League start is always a little milestone but it wasn’t the best of results for us as team,” he said.

“It was a good performance from the lads, we were in the game until the end, the second goal was a bit of a sucker punch.

“Playing in the Premier League is an experience, it’s something that takes some getting used to but hopefully I’ll get even more opportunities.

“In a Premier League side there’s always going to be competition for places so for me, it’s just a matter of working hard and keep taking my opportunities when they come.

“Once you’ve got that taste of it, you’re always going to want more.”
