Zlatan and Manchester United plotting top-four assault

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a not a player lacking in confidence, and the Manchester United hitman is in no doubt that his side can work their way into the Premier League title race over Christmas.

Despite investing in stars such as Ibrahimovic and £89m man Paul Pogba over the summer, United have found themselves off the pace after a run of just one win in eight Premier League games.

But Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham – in which another summer signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, came to the fore – has breathed new life into their campaign.

Following Manchester City’s defeat away to Leicester, six points separate the Red Devils from the top four, and Ibrahimovic believes his teammates will make further inroads over a busy Christmas schedule.

“If we can get two or three wins, we’re there,” said the 35-year-old, who has scored seven goals in his last seven games. “This is the Premier League, this is something new for me as every team I’ve played we’ve been dominating the competitions and controlling the game.

“Here it’s back to front, you never know what happens in the game and I think the teams that make the fewer mistakes during the game is the team that wins.

“(Against Tottenham) we did that and, if we continue like this for the upcoming games, we will close the gap. But I’m confident, I’m very confident.”
