Fletcher: Baggies can be better

With five wins in their last ten Premier League fixtures, West Brom are flying high in the top half of the table with 32 points from 22 games.

But despite their lofty position and promising form, captain Darren Fletcher claims they can still be better.

The former Manchester United midfield dynamo made the switch to the Hawthorns in 2015 and has made 75 appearances for the Baggies since – all in the starting 11.

He has been a mainstay in Tony Pulis’ rejuvenated side that, despite attracting criticism last season, have won plaudits from all corners this term.

The 32-year-old is adamant his side can still improve, although he insists getting to 40 points is still their first target for the season.

“You don’t take anything for granted in this league because it is so, so tough,” said the four-time Premier League champion. “If and when we reach that, we can look further ahead.

“Can we then get to 50 points? Can we finish seventh? Can we reach European football – if we can finish seventh and the cup competitions worked in our favour, that’s what we should be aiming for.

“That’s what you want as a player. We want to play in games like that, games that will provide great memories to look back on.

“It’s good – but it can always be better.

“We’re in a good position in the league, confidence is there, we feel we are playing well, we’re a hard-working bunch of lads and we are looking to progress game after game after game.

“At the moment, it’s going in the right direction.”
