Janssen: Son is the man of the moment

He might not have been playing as much as he’d have liked in a Spurs shirt in recent weeks, but Vincent Janssen admits he has no problems watching teammate Heung-Min Son flourish in his place.

Son and Janssen hauled Tottenham back into their dramatic FA Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers, as the Londoners twice came from behind to triumph 4-3 thanks to an injury-time winner from the South Korean.

Janssen, a £17million signing from AZ Alkmaar in the summer, has not quite hit top gear in the Premier League just yet having netted just five times in 27 appearances this term.

But when the penalty opportunity arose with his side in a perilous position, Janssen insisted he had no doubts about taking on the burden.

“Of course (I was keen) because I haven’t played a lot in the last few weeks and if you get an opportunity you want to show what you can do,” said the 22-year-old.

“Sonny did well to make it 2-1, we came back into the game and then the penalty came and I wanted to show what I can do. I’m happy I scored it.

“If you see what Sonny has done all season, it’s incredible. He’s done well in every game and when he is on the pitch he shows what he can do.

“He is working very hard as well and you can see what kind of qualities he has. He’s a very, very good player, he helped us today and he’s helped us all season.

“He’s very important for us. He has a lot of quality, you see that every day and I’m happy for him that he showed it again.”
