Much more to come from record-breaker Rooney, says Young

Ashley Young believes Manchester United’s record-breaker Wayne Rooney has plenty more goals left in him.

Rooney notched his 250th United goal in a 1-1 draw against Stoke City on Saturday, overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton as the Red Devils’ all-time leading scorer.

The stalemate in Staffordshire means Jose Mourinho’s side stay sixth in the Premier League, having not lost a league game for three months.

United and England captain Rooney, 31, joined United in 2004 in a £27 million switch from boyhood club Everton.

And winger Young believes his team-mate will go on to stretch the record for many years yet.

“There’s plenty more goals to come from him. He is only 31, he has got plenty more years ahead of him,” Young said.

“I’m sure the record is only going to get bigger and bigger and, if someone is going to try to break that, good luck!

“He can score goals from anywhere and anything. When you’ve got someone who is that influential in front of you, you just want to feed them and give them the ball because you know he can change a game in a matter of minutes.

“There’s a lot said about players in teams who are match-winners and he’s definitely one of them.”
