New signing Schneiderlin targeting goals at Everton

Morgan Schneiderlin’s only goal in a Manchester United shirt came against Everton but he hopes the Goodison Road faithful can forgive him if he finds the net in royal blue.

The French midfielder joined Ronald Koeman’s squad on a five-and-a-half-year deal last Thursday and wants to be a regular contributor on the goals front.

Kevin Mirallas and Ross Barkley both managed three goals from midfield last year but more support for Romelu Lukaku is needed at Goodison Park as Schneiderlin is well aware.

“The fans will forgive me if I score goals for Everton and that is what I will try to do.

“It’s a must for midfield players to score goals because the top, top midfielders, they always score between six and 12 goals a season,” he said.

“I’m trying to do this but, of course, it depends which position you play and your role.

“The defenders, too, can score from set pieces – I know Seamus Coleman has scored a few goals already this season – so they can come from anywhere.

“Most importantly though, it’s about the team winning games. I always liked the atmosphere at Goodison. It’s a very tight stadium and you can always hear noise.”
