Palace’s Schlupp taking Toffees loss ‘on chin’

Jeffrey Schlupp has swapped title-winning Leicester City for relegation-threatened Crystal Palace, but he is backing his new side to extricate themselves from their current plight and soon be climbing the table.

The winger made his first start for Sam Allardyce’s side in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Everton that saw them sink into the relegation zone.

Swansea’s shock win at Anfield lifted the Jacks out of the bottom three, and while they enjoyed a confidence boosting three points, the Eagles are still searching for their first win under Allardyce.

Currently level with Hull City on 16 points, but 16 goals to the good in terms of goal difference, Palace have won just four games all season.

But Schlupp is confident his teammates will lick their wounds after Everton’s late winner on Saturday, and go again when they travel to Bournemouth in their next Premier League game.

“I’m sure most people in the squad have been in a similar situation in their career before and we know what it takes to get out of it so we need to keep our heads as the Everton game is gone now and look forward to the next game and put things right,” he said.

“I was down with cramp but my leg locked up and basically couldn’t move. I was on the pitch and the ball went out of play but the referee obviously hasn’t seen me or just not stopped the game and they score.

“We have to take it on the chin I’m afraid and move on.”
